Marble Cake

Updated: Aug 25, 2022

The beautiful classic marble cake. It combines vanilla and chocolate, and this cake is structured like a cloud with the flavours of the heavens above, served with a silky, smooth chocolate ganache that melts right in your mouth. If you're craving a cake and looking for an easy recipe, you have arrived at the right place.

Serves: 8

Ingredients

Cake Base

1½ cup Flour

1 cup Granulated sugar

1½ Tsp Baking powder

¼ Tsp Baking soda

1 Tbsp Vanilla extract

150g Unsalted Butter

Pinch of salt

¼ cup Buttermilk

¼ cup Dark Chocochips

2 Eggs

3 Yolks

Chocolate Ganache

1 cup Chocolate chips

1 cup Heavy cream

Method

Step 1- Cake Base

Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Mix well. In a large bowl, add your butter, and beat for 1 minute on medium speed till fluffy and light.

Step 2

Add granulated sugar, and cream your butter until both sugar and butter are combined. Scrape down the bowl. Now add one egg at a time and beat on high. Repeat till all the eggs and yolks are fixed.

Step 3

Scrape down the bowl. Add your vanilla extract and beat until thoroughly mixed. Now add your dry ingredients in 3 additions, alternating with buttermilk.

Step 4

Mix until all ingredients are just mixed. Don't overmix the batter, and the batter should be slightly thick. In a heatproof bowl, melt choco-chips and cool them to room temperature. Then add the chocolate to 1 cup of the cake batter. Mix well

Step 5

Preheat the oven to 200°c. Grease a 24 cm loaf tin with butter, then line it with parchment paper.

Fill up two piping bags, one with yellow cake batter and the other with chocolate cake batter. Then start piping in your cake tin till the tin is ⅔ full. Then with a rubber spatula, flatten the top.

Step 6

Bang the tin against the slab a few times. And place in the oven. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes clean. Now take the cake out of the oven. Let it rest in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Step 7 - Chocolate Ganache

In a pan, add your heavy cream and bring to a boil. In a heatproof bowl, add choco-chips. Then add your heavy cream to the bowl, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.

Step 8

Then start whisking, mixing the chocolate and heavy cream. Whisk for 5-7 minutes in the same direction or till entirely smooth. Then let the ganache cool down for 30-40 minutes. Whisking occasionally.

Step 9 - Assembly

Once the ganache sets spread it over the marble cake. Serve with some fresh strawberries.

Tips

  1. Make sure to beat the butter and sugar thoroughly. It should double in size and turn pale, making the cake base light and fluffy.

  2. You can place the yellow and chocolate batter in the tin.

  3. Whisking the ganache is very important as the air adds structure to the ganache and makes it light and silky.
